The Department of Medical History and Bioethics dates back to 1950, when the University of Wisconsin Medical School created a Department of the History of Medicine, the second department of its kind in the country. The Program in Medical Ethics has been an integral part of the department since its founding in 1973.

Leadership changes for the Department!

Susan E. Lederer has stepped down from her duties as Department Chair after 14 years and returns full-time to the faculty.  Richard C. Keller has been named Interim Department Chair.  A national search is underway and we are acceptaing applications until November 27, 2022 or until the position is filled.  Applicants may apply here.
